Watch: Lonzo Ball 'Feeling Bouncy,' Dunking Again

The lynchpin of this Chicago Bulls' roster era is Lonzo Ball. His presence alongside Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic had the Bulls atop the Eastern Conference in the first half of the 2021-22 season. But once Ball went down with a knee injury, which has since kept him sidelined, the Bulls have been a fringe play-in team.

There have been reports from Ball's father, LaVar, and Lonzo himself that he's on the recovery path and could return during the 2024-25 season. Bulls fans have taken such updates with a grain of salt because they've mostly been just talk so far.

But now, there's tangible evidence of on-court progress as a recent Instagram video showed that Ball is back to dunking.

While this jam isn’t as graceful as Ball’s dunks from his pre-injury highlight reels, it's a great sign that things are trending in the right direction. Making explosive movements is necessary for any basketball player, and it appears Ball is finally getting back to being able to handle them.

What Lonzo Ball’s Return Would Mean For Bulls

If Lonzo Ball could return during the upcoming season, the Bulls would have a true point guard again. While he may not possess the same athleticism as he did before the injury, his court vision and ball distribution abilities are unmatched.

If the Bulls' core of Coby White, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic produce similarly to last season with Ball running the point, it could be the catalyst to make Chicago more than a play-in team.

Ball's return could also change the narrative surrounding Zach LaVine. The big-money guard constantly appears in trade rumors because the situation in Chicago hasn't been ideal with him, DeRozan, and White all need the ball in their hand to score. If Ball can return and play the role of distributor, as he did so well to begin the 2021-22 season, it could rebalance the group.

Again, Ball is still recovering. There's no concrete return timetable just yet, but the rumors of him coming back next season have become more believable.
